Call for papers RC 01, Indian Sociological Society
Theory, concept and methodology
(27-29 December 2010,
Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, Orissa)
Researchers and scholars are invited to present their ongoing or completed research in RC 01 in the forthcoming ISS conference at Cuttack. You are welcome to present conceptual or methodological innovations, debates and discussion on theories and concepts or share a perspective on social issues, in general.
In line with the conference theme, ‘Development, polity and social tensions’ RC 01 would hold a special session on, ‘How to conceptualise social change in India?’ Sanskritisation, modernisation, and westernisation have been the major models of social change in India developed in the seventies. Today we have added globalisation to the list. But a careful study of literature on the subject reveals that these are not linear or singular processes. Social change in contemporary India is wrought with back and forth movement, redefinition and reconstruction at one level and radical change at another. Violence and conflict have become a part of the process and have to be conceptualised in terms of its relation to the ongoing changes. There is a need to theorise of social change in terms of insights from the developments in the past few decades.
RC 01 invites papers on the theme, ‘How to conceptualise social change in contemporary India?’ for the special session. Papers may be conceptual or based on empirical research. Two best papers by scholars below 40 years of age will be selected by an expert committee for the award of prize. Scholars interested in contesting for the prize may kindly send their abstract to the following address/email by 7 October 2010. The abstract and full paper should mention that it is for the contest. Full paper of 7000 words along with proof of age must be sent by 30 November 2010 and the prize will be awarded during the session.
